A transaction is a transfer of value between bitcoins’ wallets, which are contained in the block chain. Bitcoins’ wallets are used to keep a confidential data file called private keys or seeds for the signature of the transaction, that is, to provide mathematical evidence that the transaction originated from the owner of the wallet. This signature also ensures that the transaction will not be modified by anyone after it has occurred.

Mining is a distributional consensus system that incorporates the transaction data to be confirmed into the block chain, thus completing the identification of these transactions. By mining, data in the block chain can be stored in chronological order, maintaining the neutrality of the Bitcoin network and allowing different computers on the Bitcoin network to agree on the system's state. To be confirmed, the transaction must be packaged into a block that meets very strict cryptography rules and validated through the Bitcoin network. These rules prevent modification of existing blocks, since all blocks will lapse as soon as changes are made. The difficulty and the median lotteries are comparable, and no one can easily and continuously add new pieces to the chain. Therefore, there is no group or individual who can control what is contained in the chain or replace parts of the chain for the purpose of cancelling their transactions.
